How Many People Survived The Titanic
|
It is indeed worthwhile to know how many people survived the Titanic as it depicts the fatality rate on that fateful day. In all about 700 hundred people are known to have survived the Titanic that sunk. This is out of the initial number of about 2,230 that were on board the ship. The main reason attributed to the low survival rate is because of the very low number of lifeboats that were on the ship. There were other factors though that contributed to this. A lot of the passengers who died were afraid to be lowered down into the boats on the icy sea. In addition there were some distressed families who were reluctant at being separated from each other. Knowing how many people survived the Titanic entails also coming to terms with the various people in the sections who were saved. Out of the number on board the Titanic ship, there were 337 people in the first class, 285 present in the second class and about 720 passengers in the third class section. The total crew member also was about 885 people. In terms of identification, majority of the survivors were children and women from the first and second class sections. This is understandable because of the fact that the first and second class sections were all closer to the deck and thus they were able to move more quickly to that place. On a general basis, only about 20% of the men on board the ship survived the Titanic compared to about 74% of the women who were saved. Out of the number of children about 52% were saved. Indeed every child in the first and the second class sections was saved which can be compared to only about 34% of the children in the third class. This depicts how many people survived the Titanic in specific terms. It should be noted that the disaster could have been averted because the number of lifeboats on board the ship was below the capacity of the ship. The operators asserted that the ship was indestructible and thus used only 20 of the 32 lifeboats capacity of the ship claiming that it could distract the aesthetics of the ship. Indeed some of the lifeboats used to carry the survivors were not even full as some feared going in. These should help you know how many people survived the Titanic. |
